Express Yourself - Five Fictional Characters in My Life

Express Yourself  is a weekly meme hosted by myself and Jackie. It's goal is to help our fellow bloggers get to know one another better by being nosey of course.

 Each week we will find something different to post about. It will correlate with writing, blogging, and life in general. Then, we hope, you’ll follow suit and post what it is that motivates you.

 This weeks question...

Nov. 17-21: Name FIVE fictional characters you would want to have in your life.

Aphrodite LaFont - House of Night (Novel Series)

Zuzanna - Daughter of Smoke and Bones (Novel Series)

Ragnar Lothbrok - Vikings (TV Show)

Daryl Dixon - The Walking Dead (TV Show/Comics)

Tally Youngblood - The Uglies (Novel Series)

Two of them are purely at my disposal to gawk at all day. Sure they would be awesome to have as friends if I'm in need to pillage a village or fend myself from zombies and maybe their conversations would entertain me all day long but they are just to pretty to not to have in my circle of fictional friends.

Novels to Shows/Movies - My Rambles

I'm sure many of you have read a book and thought, this would make a cool movie (or show).

However, many moons later, or maybe not so many moons later, a trailer for said novel pops up somewhere and you think to yourself, oh great, how stupid is this going to be? Especially for the lovers of the venerated YA genre.

Right out of the gate there was a huge setback with the Twilight Saga. Let's face it, Twilight sucked the biggest egg in egg history for this generation of novel pop culture. And although each movie gradually, and I mean in a painful way, got better, it still left a sulfur stench in the air.

Sadly, Twilight isn't the only casualty to this onslaught of literature war. Vampire Academy came in at a rump-bumping second. When I have to cover my eyes because I'm embarrassed to be watching it - and I'm by myself so who do I have to hide from, it's not a good adaptation. And that is frustrating as all get-out.

The Mortal Instruments and Beautiful Creatures were entertaining movies and followed their novel counterparts almost perfectly with a side of cheese but I still found myself cringing during some eye-rolling moments.

Since then though, I can see a rise of YA books being churned into big screen adaptations and the money behind it making sure the movie projects is what the author intended and superior than the one made before it. Hunger Games, Divergent, Fault of Our Stars, and much much more. And these also some of my favorites.

Which actually bring me to my main point *transition*

About six months ago... no wait let me check so to make sure... brb...

My bad, nine months ago, I read The 100 by Kass Morgan (still need to read Day 21) and it turned out to be an alright space-come-to-earth kind of book. Adventurous and exciting. Multiple points of view and each view was kept on point and never confusing. And, I had one of those moments when the thought of it becoming a movie or TV series would be great. Well low-and-behold, it was. March of this year on the CW network premiered the first season.

At this point you are probably wondering if I started watching it? No, unfortunately I didn't. I thought it looked cheesy and a little too dramatic, in the girly sense, for me. Well, let me just say... I stand corrected! Not on the girly part, it has plenty of touchy-feely but it has just as much in the heated action department. I had some down time this week (which I totally should have been writing) but I decided to give this show a try, and it turned out to be pretty amazing and I instantly became hooked. In four days I back-watched the first season on Netflix and caught up on the first three episodes of the second on the CW app. And now I am rip-roaring and ready to go for next weeks episode!

Has anyone else watched The 100? What do you think?
Have you read the book(s)? How do you compare the two?

Express Yourself - Halloween Plans and Costumes

Express Yourself is a weekly meme hosted by myself and Jackie. It's goal is to help our fellow bloggers get to know one another better, to help motivate one another, laugh (or cry) together, in other words – stalk.

I know EYM isn't happening this week due to Spooktoberfest but I'm doing a little bit of catching up in between reading submissions.

Oct. 13-17: Do you have any Halloween plans?

Usually we go to my in-laws so our kids can hang out with their "old" group of friends, but since they have moved, we now need to come up with a new plan & neighborhood for me to unleash my kids on. My other plans include... watching a ton of scary movies and shows, eating a bunch of unhealthy stuff, and enjoying the everything Autumn-ish that happens this time of year, maybe even have a bonfire in our little fire pit.

Oct. 20-24: What's a Halloween costume you wore as a child?

I was dressed up as Paul Stanley from Kiss. Best make-up job EVER!! I rocked it like nobodies business! Next day tho, I broke out like nobodies business, which didn't rock.

Do you have any cool Halloween plans or costumes you'd like to share?

Express Yourself Meme is a way for our community to learn a little more about each other. The past couple of weeks I have been so busy which made my blogging a little tougher to do. But FINALLY have time to catch up on our EYM.

For Feb 17-21 , Jackie and myself wanted to know...

List 5 books you would NOT want to live in. Then list 5 you WOULD. (Be sure they are books you have read - not ones you have heard about.)

Five Book Worlds I would choose to live in if I had to...

Splintered Series by A.G. Howard
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
The Circle Trilogy by Nora Roberts
Anna Series by Kendare Blake
House of Night Series by P.C. & Kristin Cast

Five Book Worlds I would prefer not to have to live in...

This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers
The Chemical Garden series by Lauren DeStefano
The Program by Suzanne Young
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
Ashfall series by Mike Mullin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For Feb 24-28 , Jackie and myself wanted to know...
If you could be in any movie or TV show, as yourself, what would you choose, and what could you bring to the table?
Movie – I would love to be in tons of movies. I love movies so much! But I guess I’d like to be in Red Dawn, either the original or the remake. It doesn’t matter. I think my main objective would be a strategic one. I’m quick on my feet and fast at doing what needs to be done. I always have a plan.
TV show – I would probably pick something Reality TV wise. Like maybe Amazing Race or Big Brother or even Survivor. Again, its all strategic. I thrive one situations that make me think outside the box and being tactical.
Celebrate the Small Things
Friday means a lot of things; the end of my work week, the day I can where a casual shirt to work (today I'm in all black except for some really colorful socks), and the day I get to share all the cool stuff I've done this week. Thanks Viklit for giving us an outlet!
A lot has happened at Entertaining Interests this week...
  • Walking Dead  isn't disappointing with all the surprises and the WTF's this season. #TeamCarol
  • Dracula  is becoming a new favorite of mine even if "the Impaler" isn't as wicked as Bram (or history) made him out to be. I like this more romantic side of him.
  • Sleepy Hollow is a charming show that gets more interesting each week.
  • AHS:Coven has got me wishing I had a few powers of my own. I don't want to be THE Supreme mind you but to have some of those powers would be awesome! My top pick would be Queenie's. I would love to be a human pin-cushion that deflects on to others.
  • Woke my kids up this morning only to be reminded they didn't have school today. Imma a-hole.
Hope you guys have a great Friday and most wonderful weekend! Enjoy some TV or maybe a movie (I'm dying to see Thor) and some family time of course!
Celebrate the Small Things
Friday means a lot of things; the end of my work week, the day I can where a casual shirt to work, the day when I can be more flippant (wait, that's everyday), and the day I get to share all the cool stuff I've done this week. Thanks Viklit for giving us an outlet!
  • I FINALLY had the chance to sit down and watch the 2 hr and 50 min movie THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey. It started out a little rough to me. (I hope I don't get stoned for that) It's true though, I felt as though I was watching the 7 dwarves from Snow White in Bilbo's house but once all the silliness past I was able to fall in love again with the story. I understand Gimli was usually the comic relief from LOTR and we needed to be reminded of that but I thought it was slightly over the top with the singing. I guess I wanted more pissed off dwarves. Idk.
  • I caught up on some of my TV shows. I have so many that it's hard to keep up. Sleepy Hollow, AHS: Coven (I couldn't stay up to watch Wednesday nights), Revolution, and I still need to get caught up on Under the Dome. Ugh... with Grimm and Dracula starting I don't know what I'm going to do. Sheesh!
  • I have a pile of books I wanna read but you all just found out how far behind I am on my TV shows... but I am happy to announce that I started reading Triangles by Kimberly Ann Miller!! Whoop! Let the Bermuda fun begin!
  • Here are some pictures from last Saturday's zombie party (our littlest one stayed with grandma, she would have hated the party)... she hated my Day of the Dead face makeup. I did all of our makeup, it was fun glue everyones zombie scars on and plastering on the fake blood in the gash wounds...
Thirty-One Loves of October: Days 17-20:
Haunted Houses/Castles/Jails/Forests
Candy Corn
Fake Spiders - cause real ones are gross
Hoodies!!
Have an awesome weekend!
