A to Z - Death and Descent

Besides my name ...

Dawn of the Dead
2004 zombie horror film, remake of George A. Romero's 1978 film. The film depicts a handful of human survivors living in a Milwaukee, Wisconsin shopping mall surrounded by swarms of zombies.
Cameos from the original cast members Ken Foree, Scott Reiniger and Tom Savini, which is pretty cool.

Veralidaine "Daine" Sarrasri
The main character of the quartet, she is a young woman possessing "wild magic," and has the power to speak to, heal, and shapeshift into animals. Born in the village of Snowsdale in Galla, her father is Weiryn, a minor god of the hunt who fell in love with Daine's mother, Sarra. Despite her original fear of her wild magic overpowering her, she learns to control her power. She is shown to hate Stormwings, magical creatures who prey on fear and warfare, in the first books, but later changes her mind when she realizes that Stormwings are simply what they are. She even develops a tentative friendship with a Stormwing named Rikash. Daine, along other characters of the series, appears briefly in the Protector of the Small and Daughter of the Lioness series.

The Descent

Is a 2005 British horror film written and directed by Neil Marshall. The film follows six women who, having entered an unmapped cave system, become trapped, and are hunted by subterranean flesh-eating humanoids.

Death Eaters
The Death Eaters first existed 11 years before the events of the books, torturing and murdering Muggles (non-magical humans) as well as anyone who opposed them or was believed to have information which could aid in or harm their rise to power. They also did this to people who were blood traitors. With Voldemort vanquished after failing to kill Harry, the Death Eaters largely disbanded. The Ministry rounded many of them up and imprisoned them in Azkaban, the Wizarding prison, but some eluded justice by claiming they were bewitched by the Imperius Curse or by turning in other Death Eaters, as Igor Karkaroff did.
While the Death Eaters practice "dark magic", illegal and dangerous spells, their ideology, such as it is, is a version of racial supremacy. They believe wizards are, as a genealogy book within the story phrases it, "Nature's Nobility"; other magical creatures and the non-magical are inferior and should be subjugated.

Dragons
In Norse mythology, Níðhöggr often anglicized Nidhogg is a dragon who gnaws at a root of the World Tree, Yggdrasill. In the mythology, the Nidhogg is said to be controlled by only one person, the Norse God named Hel.

Centres of Faith

(Gamla Uppsala)
The Germanic tribes rarely or never had temples in a modern sense. The Blót, the form of worship practiced by the ancient Germanic and Scandinavian people, resembled that of the Celts and Balts. It occurred either in sacred groves, at home, or at a simple altar of piled stones known as a "horgr." However, there seem to have been a few more important centres, such as Skiringssal, Lejre and Uppsala. Adam of Bremen claims that there was a temple at Uppsala with three wooden statues of Odin, Thor and Freyr.

A to Z - Books and Bifrost

Bible... the Zombie Bible(s)
By Stant Litore
@thezombiebible

Band of Brothers

A 2001, HBO,  ten-part, 11-hour, television, World War II, miniseries based on the book of the same title written by historian and biographer Stephen E. Ambrose.

The narrative centers on the experiences of "Easy Company", 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment assigned to the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. The series covers Easy's basic training at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, the American airborne landings in Normandy, Operation Market Garden, the Siege of Bastogne, and on to the end of the war, including the taking of the Eagle's Nest.

Beautiful Creatures

By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Movie casting details on their websites!

Bellatrix Lestrange

The first female Death Eater introduced in the books, and one of the most faithful members of Voldemort's inner circle. She is described as being highly attractive yet emaciated due to her time in Azkaban and described as having long, kinky black hair and dark heavily lidded eyes. She is in desperate need of a comb because her hair looks a hot mess. Bellatrix is portrayed as paranoid, mentally unstable and fanatically devoted to Voldemort. She takes an obvious pleasure in acts of torture and cruelty. Despite her apparent mental instability, she is a witch of prodigious ability, as demonstrated by all her victories in duels against other characters, and as noted by Harry in the final book. She has two sisters and is the cousin to Sirius and Regulus Black and also the aunt to Draco Malfoy and Nymphadora Tonks.

Bifröst

Is a burning rainbow bridge that reaches between Midgard (the world or Earth) and Asgard, the realm of the gods. According to the Prose Edda, the bridge ends in heaven at Himinbjörg, the residence of the god Heimdallr, who guards it from the jötnar. The bridge's destruction at Ragnarök by the forces of Muspell is foretold. Scholars have proposed that the bridge may have originally represented the Milky Way and have noted parallels between the bridge and another bridge in Norse mythology, Gjallarbrú.

Alden Bell
Ok so some of you are thinking “Alden Bell?” “Who the heck is that?” “What does he have to do with Zombies or reanimated undead?” Well, Alden Bell is the author of the zombie novel The Reapers are the Angels. But Alden Bell is the pseudonym for *drumroll please* Joshua Gaylord.
The Reapers are the Angels won the ALA Alex Award and nominated for the 2010 Philip K. Dick Award and the 2010 Shirley Jackson Award.

Apocalypse Now
“I love the smell of napalm in the morning.”

Why do I love this movie? Cause I love war movies! I grew up watching this “crap” with my dad and it must have worn off. *shrugs* What can I say? I’m a girl with a soft spot for war movies/shows.

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Professor
A major character of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. He is the headmaster of the wizarding school Hogwarts. It is revealed that he is the founder and leader of the Order of the Phoenix, an union dedicated to fighting Lord Voldemort. Rowling stated she chose the name Dumbledore, which is an Early Modern English word for "bumblebee", because of Dumbledore's love of music: she imagined him walking around "humming to himself a lot".

Ängsälvor

Meadow Elves (in Swedish called Älva if female and Alf if male) are in some parts mostly described as female (in contrast to the light and dark elves in the Edda), otherworldly beautiful and seductive residents of forests, meadows and mires. They are skilled in magic and illusions. Sometimes they are described as small fairies, sometimes as full-sized women and sometimes as half transparent spirits - or a mix thereof. They are closely linked to the mist and it is often said in Sweden that "the Elves are dancing in the mist". The female form of Elves may have originated from the female deities called Dís. They were very powerful spirits closely linked to the seid magic. In Denmark, the female elves have merged with the dangerous and seductive huldra, skogsfrun or "keeper of the forest".
