EYM December List is Here - Grinch

Express Yourself  is a weekly meme hosted by myself and Jackie. It's goal is to help our fellow bloggers get to know one another better by being nosey of course.

Each week we will find something different to post about. It will correlate with writing, blogging, and life in general. Then, we hope, you’ll follow suit and post what it is that motivates you.

This weeks question:

Dec. 1-5: What Holiday themed show/movie/book are you most looking forward to? Don't celebrate the Dec. Holiday - then name something you're watching/reading this month.

Pretty much any Christmas themed show or movie gets me giddy. But I think I'm really looking forward to Grinch (Not the cartoon version).

What are you guys looking forward to?!

Celebrating My Week is Almost Over

Ahhh, it's Friday! I can't believe it's here already! Woot!  VikLit always puts on a great Friday celebration!
This week... hmmm I really don't have anything way over the top to celebrate. Let see what I can fish out of my memeory banks...

  • Well Jackie and I always seem to wait until the last week of each month to come up with our Express Yourself Meme list for the following month. I think we have silently agreed that we both work better under pressure. Maybe? *shrugs* But nonetheless the October EYM list is ready and is as follows...

  • Another stressed out week this time for heath issues dealing with my husband. We will hopefully find out answers today. He already has Crohn's which might have contributed to this little stint. It's just one of those things.
  • A friend at work let me borrow his Star Trek movie so I watched it over the weekend. I couldn't sleep one night so it was like 2:30am when I started watching it. Scottie is definitely one of my favorites! Right off the bat I knew what was going to be used to save someones life. It was predictable but I still teared up. I'm such a geek. And then in return I let him borrow my World War Z.
  • My 13 yr old wanted to watch WWZ and I let her, it's not gory and I thought if she can handle The Walking Dead then she can most definitely handle WWZ. She literally sat on top of parts of my body - you know, "just in case". But she really loved it and even shouted at the screan a couple of times, "DON'T LEAVE THE CROWBAR YOU DOPE!" and even caught on to the little things that some adults didn't even get the first time around, "They just past him up. He must have something." I was rather surprised at how much she was calculating in her brain. Usually she is the child who says, "I don't get it," or, "I'm confused," but she's also the one who brings home straight A's. My 15 year old said he had too much homework and would watch it later.

Express Yourself - Author Quotes

Express Yourself is a weekly Meme hosted by my friend Jackie and myself. We do this every week to learn more about our fellow bloggers and so far we have met some very talented and wonderful people!
This weeks question is: What are some of your favorite Author Quotes?
And yes, I have quite a few I adore.
“Forget your personal tragedy. We are all bitched from the start and you especially have to be hurt like hell before you can write seriously. But when you get the damned hurt, use it-don't cheat with it.”
—Ernest Hemingway

“The first duty of the novelist is to entertain. It is a moral duty. People who read your books are sick, sad, traveling, in the hospital waiting room while someone is dying. Books are written by the alone for the alone.”
—Donna Tartt (author of The Secret History and The Little Friend)

“The only way you can write the truth is to assume that what you set down will never be read. Not by any other person, and not even by yourself at some later date. Otherwise you begin excusing yourself. You must see the writing as emerging like a long scroll of ink from the index finger of your right hand; you must see your left hand erasing it.”
—Margaret Atwood

“All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they had really happened and after you are finished reading one you will feel that all that happened to you and afterwards it all belongs to you: the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse and sorrow, the people and the places and how the weather was. If you can get so that you can give that to people, then you are a writer.”
—Ernest Hemingway

“At nineteen they can card you in the bars and tell you to get the fuck out, put your sorry act (and sorrier ass) back on the street, but they can't card you when you sit down to paint a picture, write a poem, or tell a story, by God, and if you reading this happens to be very young, don't let your elders and supposed betters tell you any different. Sure, you've never been to Paris. No, you never ran with the bulls at Pamplona. Yes, you're a pissant who had no hair in your armpits until three years ago - but so what? If you don't start out too big for your britches, how are you gonna fill 'em when you grow up? Let it rip regardless of what anybody tells you, that's my idea; sit down and smoke that baby.”
—Stephen King

“You get ideas from daydreaming. You get ideas from being bored. You get ideas all the time. The only difference between writers and other people is we notice when we're doing it.”
—Neil Gaiman
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

Express Yourself - Resolutions

Today is the kickoff for the 2013 edition of Express Yourself. And the first inquiry, Jackie and I want to know, of the year is: What is your 2013 Resolutions? And if you don't make any, then what is something you are looking forward to in 2013 (i.e. life changing event)?

Oh I try to make at least one resolution every year but end up break it, especially if it has to do with losing weight. That is just something that always sounds good, but food ALWAYS looks better.

Last year’s resolution was to read more and I actually fulfilled that goal ALL YEAR LONG! I read over 150+ books in 2012. By the time December came around I didn't touch a book. I decided to concentrate on catching up on those movies I neglected. So far in 2013 I've read 2 books so I'm happy with myself.

However my resolution for 2013 is to just make sure I'm happy. I know, how vague. But it's important. As a mom or even a parent we seem to neglect ourselves. So this year, of course, I'm still going to put forth all of my efforts making sure my kids are happy and healthy and thriving, but I'm going to take the time to pamper myself more.

You know, my daughter doesn't need another pair of boots-with-the-fur, so that I can get a bra that isn't falling apart.

Or my son can buy his own date to the movies so I can stop putting off dying my two inches of grey roots when needed. Gawd I'm only going to be 35 (on Friday) and I have tons of grey! It's probably cause I need a new bra.

And the sad thing is... it's not like we can't afford the things I need. I'm just one of those that think - If I spend that money on me, then something happens like one of our cars take a crap, then I just futilely spent that money. Really? Like a bottle of hair dye or a bra are going to do us in, but I just can't justify it.

Or telling my kids "Not right now" so that I can finally finish my first rewrite of my first draft and get those edits done. If I keep telling my WIP "Not right now" it's never gonna get done. And dreams don't come true by sitting by the wayside.

BUT NO MORE! This year, I'm going to start spending a little more time on me to make sure I'm a little more happier with myself. Let's see if I can stick to this.

Have a happy Monday!

Express Yourself Meme Upgrade

Hello again!

Jackie and I posted yesterday about our NEW Express Youself Meme... We have made a few changes to it... including a Linky Thingy for those of you that had been asking about one. We discussed it and thought it was a great idea! There will be a NEW Linky every week so don't forget signup!
Again, for those of you that missed it, here are the deets...

"Express Yourself" is a weekly meme which started yesterday, Monday Oct 1st! It's goal is to help our fellow bloggers get to know us and one another better; to help motivate, laugh (or cry) together, in other words – stalk.

What makes you tick? What inspires you to write? How is the outside world influencing you? Whether it be a quote, a list of favorite things/people, a question, a song, and so on. Each Monday we will find something different to post about. It will correlate with writing, blogging, and life in general. Then, we hope, you’ll follow suit and post what it is that motivates you.
At the beginning of every month Jackie and I will post a Gadget with a list of that month’s weekly posts so you will be informed in advanced. Jackie and I will be posting on Monday's (usually). We know most of you are busy when Monday rolls around or maybe you don’t post on Mondays at all. Don’t fret, we understand. That’s why you have the rest of the week to post.

Oh good. You noticed two banners. We loved both and couldn’t decide. Pick one, use both, it’s up to you.
For the Month of October the topics are…
Oct. 1 - 5 – Pick a name in your current wip; what was your process of acquiring it?
Oct. 8 - 12 – List 5 movies/books that causes the hair to stand up on your neck.
Oct. 15 - 19 – What language would you like to speak and why?
Oct. 22 - 25 – List 5 favorite monsters throughout history.
No meme Friday Oct. 26 thru Friday Nov. 2 due to Spooktoberfest and a little fall break.

Nov. 1st we will be posting the Nov. Express Yourself Meme questions.

For easy access to the rules and Q’s for ea. month; there will be a Page Tab – Express Yourself
