Dreaming Darkly & Dharma - #AtoZChallenge

Dreaming Darkly
by

  • The nature of reality regarded as a universal truth taught by the Buddha; the teaching of Buddhism.
  • An aspect of truth or reality.
To develop this freedom, one must practice habits of ethical conduct, thought, and meditation that enable one to move along the path. These habits include:

  • Right understanding. Really knowing, for example, that unwholesome acts and thoughts have consequences, as do wholesome acts and thoughts.
  • Right intention. Recognizing that actions are shaped by habits of anger and self-centeredness, or by habits of compassion, understanding, and love.
  • Right speech. Recognizing the moral implications of speech. Truthfulness.
  • Right action. Observing the five precepts at the foundation of all morality: not killing, not stealing, not engaging in sexual misconduct, not lying, and not clouding the mind with intoxicants.
  • Right livelihood. Earning a living in ways that are consonant with the basic precepts.
  • Right effort. Cultivating this way of living with the attention, the patience, and the perseverance that it takes to cultivate a field.
  • Right mindfulness. Developing “presence of mind” through the moment-to-moment awareness of meditation practice, including mindfulness of breathing, mindfulness of walking, and mindfulness of bodily sensations.
  • Right concentration. Developing the ability to bring the dispersed and distracted mind and heart to a center, a focus, and to see clearly through that focused mind and heart.
10 Rules:
  • Patience (dhriti)
  • Forgiveness (kshama)
  • Piety or self-control (dama)
  • Honesty (asteya)
  • Sanctity (shauch)
  • Control of senses )indraiya-nigrah)
  • Reason (dhi)
  • Knowledge or learning (vidya)
  • Truthfulness (satya)
  • Absence of anger (krodha)

2015 Audiobook Challenge

***My goal is to go for Stenographer (can listen while multi-tasking) 10-15.
I constantly listen to books while at work and I'm sure I'll go over the 15 mark but wanted to be humble about my limit. (Most of the books I read are audiobooks.)

2015 Audiobook Challenge

They had so much fun with the Audiobook Challenge so it’s coming back for 2015! Join The Book Nympho and Hot Listens for the 3rd year of great audiobooks.

Audiobooks are great for those times you want to read but can’t for some reason like driving, doing chores, working out, or if you’re one of the lucky ones like me, listen to them at work.

I know some of you are thinking, audio books? Pass. I thought that once too. But when you find a great narrator they can make the story even better. There are some series I will only listen even if I can get the Arc I’ll wait until the audio is available because the narrator does such a great job bring the book to life.

Reading Challenge Details:

  • Runs January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2015. You can join at anytime.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2015 than you did in 2014.
  • Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
  • ANY genres count.
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Shelfari, Booklikes, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc. – I’ve created a Goodreads Group for the challenge, feel free to join.
  • If you’re a blogger grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook or Tweeting about the challenge.

By request, a new level (Marathoner) has been added this year for the hardcore listeners and the numbers for My Precious has been changed from 30+ to 30-50.
Levels:
  • Newbie (I’ll give it a try) 1-5
  • Weekend Warrior (I’m getting the hang of this) 5-10
  • Stenographer (can listen while multi-tasking) 10-15
  • Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20
  • Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30
  • My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30-50
  • Marathoner (Look Ma no hands) 50+
They've decided to go back to having quarterly updates to help keep everyone motivated and to snag new participants through out the year. There will be posts on the following dates for you guys to check in to let them know how your listening is going for 2015.

Update Schedule:

  • March 27th: 1st Quarter Update
  • June 19th: 2nd Quarter Update – Giveaway included
  • September 25th: 3rd Quarter Update
  • December 18th: 4th Quarter Update and Wrap – Giveaway included

Urban Adventure Race - July Bike Race News and Pictures

As some of you know, July 27th I participated in a bike race – slash – obstacle course. And just like last year, I should have trained a little harder and more frequently but it didn’t work out in my favor. The weather leading up to the Games didn’t feel like cooperating with me so I got little biking time in. And boy did I know it!

This year (compared to last year) was much harder and had a few more challenges to complete. Going from 28 (last year) to 34. Last year my husband and I only completed 25 out of the 28. This year my friend and I only completed 16 out of 34. So why such a huge difference? The challenges were spread out and more physical. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the physical challenges. I love being pushed to my limits but only in short bursts. NOT biking the 30+ miles.

However, I HAD A FREAKING BLAST!

Below are some of the pictures we were able to take, plus some professional ones curtesy of Urban Adventures website. Not all challenges were photographed. The race took place in South Bend and Mishawaka, Indiana.

Also, Here is a video of the group I was in. I’m only in a few clips but it gives you an idea of what we accomplished. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czlYpn8vvF8
Teams: Black Widows & Shark Attack

The wall was so hard but we finished! I'm on left and my partner is on the right.

We had to stuff 10 kickballs in oversixed granny panties, while wearing them, then run around a baseball diamond.

We had to run around Notre Dame stadium: one ran while the other scootered and then we switched at the 1/2 way point.

Paddlebording across the river and back.

Coming into the finish line after getting lost in the "hood" where we witnessed a drug deal.

We survived and have the medals to prove it!

Challenges not pictured: canoes, zipline, counting beer, mystery photo, airline, cornhole, climbing one of those carnival ladders that flip you, finding $.36 at the bottom of a pool, having 4 flat tires (not me but 3 in my group started out with 3 flats before we even began and then another got a flat during).

People traveled from all over. My partners' brother (who was in Shark Attack) came up for Florida, and others came from California, Ohio, Kansas, and one for Texas. Plus, everyone travelled from ALL over Indiana... myself included (drove 2 hrs). So if you are wanting to challenge yourself, this is the thing to try! South Bend is beautiful and a must if travelling!

I have the Color Me Rad 5k August 24th that I'm running with Jackie and our hubbys. And I've already signed up for Dirty Girl Mud happening May 17th of 2014!!
