IWSG - Uturn

If you are here for the Resurrection Blogfest, that post is here.

Ah, so, it’s that time of the month again where I lay out my insecurities.
I like it actually. When I talk about writing to non-writers I get the glazed over look. Which is uncomfortable. They nod and do a lot of “hmm mmm” ‘s. Which, by the way, makes me feel stupid. They are the ones that have no idea what I’m talking about. So shouldn’t they feel stupid? Why is that?
So my WIP took an unexpected U-turn.
I was headed down the road of mythology and suddenly ended up in outer space. WHA-?
How in the Sam-H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks does that happen? I have no idea. *shrugs*
The better first half of my book is going to be a [female dog] to change but it has to get done. Right? Right!
Monday I posted a playlist for my WIP Occupiers and a rough synopsis which indicates my WIP is a bit Rock-N-Rock meets Heavy Metal. Of course it has a few slower songs, you know, not everything in life is equivalent to what snorting crack might feel like. However I’m hoping most of my WIP has readers flipping the pages so fast; paper cuts become popular.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold my horses! I still need to edit the first, like, 100 pages. Then edit the whole thing. Then have someone else read it and edit it for me. Then more editing. I still need to edit my synopsis and write a query, and and and and and … ARG … UGH … WTF!
Have a great Wednesday

  1. I find the same thing. I can not talk to non-writers about writing. It's like someone trying to talk to be about scrap-booking. I just don't get it!! LOL

That is too funny. And I totally get what you mean. Which is why I keep the explanations to a minimum.

  3. You're right, it's tough to talk to non-writers about writing. But, in my opinion, even worse than those whose eyes glaze over as the feign interest (badly) are the ones who do engage you, but think they know how writing/publishing works (despite all evidence to the contrary) for whatever reason, so they say silly things and get offended if you try to politely correct them.

But then that's why we have groups like IWSG, yeah? So we crazy writers can talk about how no one really understand our crazy plight. ;)

Good luck on the WIP! I love those unexpected U-turns.

  4. It is very difficult to talk to non writers about writing. I mostly try to avoid it.

And I love it when I think my story's headed down one road and then all of a sudden I end up somewhere I didn't expect to go. I mean, there's panic too, lots and lots of panic but also love.

  5. You actually talk to non-writers?"

Sounds like you are on the right track, editing and paper cuts.

  7. "I’m hoping most of my WIP has readers flipping the pages so fast; paper cuts become popular" = best line EVER! With writing like that, how could it not? Good luck on your editing, I can't even imagine having a story change direction so much that the beginning would have to be re-written... but the change must be worth it or you wouldn't have headed in that direction in the first place, right?

  9. Talking about writing to non-writerly folk? Yeah, I completely try an avoid that one.

Editing is daunting and tedious and exhausting and painful (shall I go on?), but oh, so necessary. :) Keep your chin up!

  10. That happened to me, too. My other MS, Breathe For Me, was mythology based, but then I switched it to alien stuff. Thank goodness my CP's were willing to read through it again! LOL

And I totally get you on the non-writing community. :/

  11. Personally, that's what I like about writing - if you're like me (and you it seems :D) you can't be sure where you're going to end up with a particular story!
