Spooktoberfest WINNER

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!
I can’t believe this month is almost over. It’s truly a bloody bummer.

As I write this I’m jammin’ to a ‘lil Fleetwood Mac; trying to make some last minute decisions for the Spooktoberfest Winner. This was such a hard choice. I could never be judge on American Idol - everyone would win.

Disclaimer: We removed participants that ended up not participating by the cutoff date for easier viewing. Your previous entry number may have changed. Thank you.
Seriously! You guys did such an amazing job and in so many amazing styles. The creativity just floors me. I am blessed to have so many remarkably talented writers in my circle of blogging friends. It’s nice to know the world is speckled with such talent.
Ok enough with all this sentimental bs (which is usually not my style). You guys want to know who the winner is – RIGHT?!
I had the heat down to 10 challengers, then widdled it down to 7, then 5, then 3, then...

The WINNER is…

THE GROWING WRITER with RANDOMNESS – There was something about this piece which gripped me around my throat and wouldn’t let go. Maybe it was the poison in that bit ‘o candy I ate. I don’t know. This guy was messed up. I’m not sure of his motives but what I do know is it wasn’t just simple revenge. It – simple revenge – would have been projected on only the innocent. He was playing a game of Russian Roulette. Loved it. (Grab the badge and rock it on your page if you'd like)
Ok, Von L Cid, what I need you to do now is email me @ d.bertrand_12@yahoo.com with your fave type of candy - which I’m now leery of giving you in fear of you spiking it. O_o and an address that I can send your goodie bag to.
Yes there is only one winner but The Growing Writer was neck and neck with two others.
And the two RUNNER UP’S are…

ONE MAGIC BEAN BUYER with VEIL HILL – Finn’s so called best friend got what he deserved! I love revenge served cold and bloody! (You may grab the badge and rock it on your page if you'd like)
…and TIFFANY READS with THE DARE – I’m sorry but I think Lizzie should have watched more scary movies as a child. What was she thinking? (You may grab the badge and rock it on your page if you'd like)

Go HERE to out Jackie's WINNER!
Ohhhh but there are so many great ones!
Friends slices throats to friends pulling pranks.
Death chewing bubble gum to witches enticing children.
Haunted hayrides to haunted mazes & houses.
"Hey who changed the channel? I was watching Bleary Springer!"
Crocked potions to conjured potions.
Creepers in stores to creepers in the night.
Poems & recipes.
Revenge – romance – murder.
And I thought there was plenty for children literature. And a few commercial ideas as well!

What more could you ask for in a Blogfest?!
Now I heard it’s hard to get your hands on certain candies outside of the U.S. Like – let’s say – Reese’s Piece’s in Wales?
I’m curious – tell me in the comments section what candy is hard to get in your end of the world?
Everyone be safe tonight and don’t let the ghouls and goblins get ya!

Monstrous Monday - Mound-Walkers

Here we go…

Blogfest; bloghops galore!

I was going around reading all the Spooktoberfest entries and I think 85% of them had Tim Brannan’s Monstrous Monday Blogfest all over ‘em.

So I did the only thing a good blogger would do – I hopped on over to see what all the fuss was all about.

I’m so glad I did. Lately during [Jackie and my] Express Yourself meme we have been sticking with the Halloween theme and doing a lot of Monster or scary leitmotif ideas. Once Monstrous Blogfest jumped out at me I just had to part-take in it myself.

I can’t resist a good Monster romp!

The rules are simple:
1. Sign up.
2. Grab one of his buttons from his sites.
3. Post your Monster of choice today, Monday October 29th 2012!
That’s it.

Some of my faves and by faves – and I use that term loosely – I mean they scare me but I love them ‘cause they scare me.

Zombies
Insidious’ Red-faced Demon
Its' Pennywise
30 Days of Nights' Vamps
Jeepers Creepers' Creature

However the Monsters I want to highlight in today’s Blogfest are…

Mound-Walkers from the movie My New Daughter starring Kevin Costner. Based on the short story of the same name by John Connolly, it tells the story of a novelist and his two children who encounter a malevolent presence when they move to a house in the country adjacent to a burial mound.

This movie freaked me out! Let me repeat… IT. FREAKED. ME. THE. FREAK. OUT! This movie is a MUST WATCH!! Mound-Walkers make my skin crawl and my stomach wanna regurgitate it’s lunch.

Don't forget - Spooktoberfest Winners will be announced this Wednesday the 31st so come back then!

And then Nov. 1st Jackie and I will be posting the November Express Yourself Meme Banner!

Have a great Monday!

Spooktoberfest is Here

Jackie and I are so excited and we can't wait to read what you all have come up with! YAY!!

If you are late to party - don't worry you can check out the deets here or just click on the Page Tab button labeled SPOOKTOBERFEST. It's that simple. And once you have decided to participate; please sign up using the Linky Thingy and submit your piece no later than Midnight Oct. 29th.

Now I normally Flash Fiction scarier pieces but I wrote this last week when I was the carrier of a super sludge bug that didn't want to let go. So I wrote a more relaxed, humorous slice.

Sonsawitches

“What the hell just happened?” I asked, pulling cobwebs out of my hair.
“Those jerks locked us out,” Jackie huffed.
“Sonsabitches! This is the last time I’m going Trick-or-Treatin’ for them.”
“I have a key, hold on.” She tucked the broom under her arm and sat her cauldron full of candy, on the steps, next to my feet. “Let me dig in here,” she murmured, fumbling with her witch’s gown. “Got it!”
“Ouch! Watch it!” I covered my eye.
“What?” She glanced over her shoulder, causing me to back up so her broom didn’t knock me in the head again - to no avail.
“Ouch! Stop moving your broom! It's stuck in my hair now.”
She tugged anyways.
“Jeezus! Stop! The ends feel like razor blades.”
“Don’t be a baby. I got this! Just hold still.” She leaned in to get a better look.
“Jackie. Don’t. Move.”
Her eyes grew big with panic. “What? Why? Is something behind me?”
“No. My foot is stuck in your candy bucket.”
“What! Oh Lord, the kids are gonna kill you.” She giggled through clenched teeth. “Hold on let me get your foot unstuck first, then I’ll get my broom loose.
While she fiddled with that forsaken cauldron, I decided to mess with the broom instead of waiting. In my triumph I held the broom above my head shouting, “It’s OUT,” despite knocking down a ghost hanging from the tree above us.
“Ouch! Shit! What was that?” Jackie berated.
“Umm,” I held back laughter.
She backed away rubbing her head. “You've got to be kidding me!"
“Jackie watch out–”

CRUNCH

“Crap!" She exhaled.

I tried to warn her. Little did she know, my jack-o-lantern, full of candy, had its mouth open, waiting for her foot.
“Correction. The kids are gonna kill us both.”

Express Yourself Meme

If you are here looking for the Letting Go Bloghop post look here!

Welcome back to Express Yourself week of Oct 22 - 25! This week’s Meme is only thru Thursday because out Blogfest, Spooktoberfest, Starts Friday the 26th!
Last weeks languages had me speaking in tongues! I loved everyone’s different styles of speech.
For this week’s post, Jackie and I would like for you to list 5 of your favorite monsters throughout history. This can be the ones the scare you the most. Or maybe the ones that you find the cutest. Whatever you want.
I’m going to stick with the Halloween theme and go with scariest! But in no particular order.
1.) Alien – This “mother” of all aliens can pop out like a million eggs of these other disgusting aliens that attach themselves onto your face so they can lay more babies inside of you! Ugh, gross! No thank you! Ripley was one bada$$ B*tch to want to face this thing over and over again.
2.) Pennywise – The clown from hell. *shiver* I really can’t even talk about this “bozo”. He freaks me out. DOWN WITH CLOWNS!
3.) Insidious’ Red-faced Demon – WTH! No, seriously What the hell! This guy. Makes. Me. Shutter. It’s like someone wanted to dress up like Darth Maul while being tossed around in the dryer. Not only was that movie on some serious steroids, but this guy wigged me the freak out!
4.) 30 Days of Night Vamps – These vampires neither sparkled nor shined. There was no Edward Cullen or Lestat de Lioncourt in sight. These are your hardcore, rip your heart out, need a depend, vamp. Alaska would be nice to visit during the day and then get me the hell outta there.
5.) Zombies – Uhhh, duh! Hello! McFly… well there will be tons of flies anyways. And guts, and brains, and sheesh – I think I’m trying to make myself sick here. You get my point. Zombies are not a new thing. They have been around since forever. Voodoo is known as some of the first magic to bring back the dead. Ever heard of a Revenant? But these are more of the spiritual aspect. When people start eating people by the thousands; come find me, I’ll be the one blowing everyone’s head off.
Happy moster hunting!

K. Lennon's Letting Go Bloghop - Fact

Express Yourself Meme entry  is here

It's time for Kyra Lennon's "Letting Go" bloghop to revel the release of her novella If I Let You Go.

If I Let You Go - Amazon UK
If I Let You Go - Amazon.com

For my piece I am going to post a type of a journal entry.

Letting go
That’s part of life, right? How many times have we all heard a version of the timeless phrase, “Let it go, and if it comes back then it was meant to be.” And how many times have we all thought, BULLSHIT?
In my life, a few times it worked, a few times it hadn’t.

I thought and processed about what I was going to write – Letting Go. I’ve “Let Go” of plenty in my life. Loves, losses, lusts, friends, items, lives, words, moments, etcetera, etcetera.
Maybe, a piece about the guilt I have over my brother’s passing. I wasn’t in the car. I wasn’t even within two hundred miles of him. I wasn’t the driver behind the wheel. I couldn’t stop the box-truck from driving over the backseat where he was sleeping. I couldn’t tell the driver not to use the emergency turn around on the highway as a viable U-turn. I couldn’t magically dissolve the blanket of fog which covered the roads. So why do I have guilt? I’m still working on letting go. Maybe this isn’t a good example – yet.
Maybe a Letting Go success story: Divorce. Yes, it’s a bit personal but I’m ok with it.
Now I don’t need, nor do I want, a pity party here. I’m just laying out the logistics. Backstory: Parents hated him, so it pushed me even more. (Hint: Parents, if you hate the bf/gf, don’t let your kids know) He was the son of a preacher man. Age 19 - We moved in together. He said all the right things. Did I mention he was the singer of a band? A very popular band I might add.
BAM! Three pregnancy tests later, I’m pretty sure we were having a baby.

Age 20 - After seven months of dating, I’m Mrs. ______ to a man I didn’t even love. You read that right. I didn’t even love him. Remember, he’s the son of a preacher man. You know, all of that “out of wedlock” crap and my father saying, “He needs to make an honest woman out of you”. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Age 24 - Nine months after baby #2 came along, Universal Records calls, his song gets featured on American Pie 2, they went on a small tour, a stripper made her moves, he made his, and I moved on.
After I moved out, heartbreak moved in and I realize that somewhere between marriage and divorce I had fallen in love with him. When in the hell did that happen? Shit!
Letting Go.
I had made a lot of choices in my life but having the carpet ripped out from underneath me wasn’t one of them. Neither was him deciding to walk away from his children. Away from me was fine. With every piece of my life I picked up I found a new beginning. With each piece was a new promise. New love. New life.
I forgave.
Eventually I Let Go.

#Spooktoberfest

And don’t ask me if I have my piece done cuz I don’t. I’ve been sick. And I don’t mean I have this little cold; I mean I have this – I wanna rip my face off and scoop out the sludge – cold. For days and days and days all I’ve seen is sludge. Choking on sludge. Coughing on sludge. Can’t talk without wanting to hack up a lung with sludge. Need I go on? Plus … nothing is coming to me. I’ve got too much d@mn sludge in the way. If the Egyptians came to mummify me, they couldn’t get to my brain through my nose if they were using a needle nose pliers and a sledgehammer. I’ve been blowing my nose so hard; air is coming out of my eye sockets. No flippin’ joke. The sludge is backing up, its starting to come out of my eye. Cute, huh?

I will have it done in time. Like I said, I have 8 days.

Express Yourself & Nineties Blogfest

Welcome back to Express Yourself week of Oct 15 - 19! Loved the creepy movies and books everyone posted last week! For this weeks post, Jackie and I would like to know - What language would you like to speak and why?

Ich möchte lernen, wie Sie Deutsch einigen Tag sprechen. Ich kenne ein kleines aber nicht genug, mich sehr weit zu erhalten.

I totally translated that on freetranslation.com people...

It says: "I would like to learn how to speak German some day.  I only know enough to get me by."

In high school I took German but of course it never stuck. I would love to re-learn it. It's part of my heritage and I just love the way it sounds. I know a few phrases and how to count but that's about it.

How about you? Sign up for Express Yourself Meme below!

Now on to the Nineties Blogfest; over at Dave Wrote This, he is havin' a blogfest today celebrating the nineties. All you have to do is post one thing you loved about each year.

As so...

The 90’s
1990 – In Living Color pilot was April 15th. Fire Marshal Bill by Jim Carrey was the best.
1991 – Cape Fear grossed $182,291,969 and caused me to sleep with the lights on for a week.
1992 – Nirvana, need I say more.
1993 – Jurassic Park grossed $914,691,118 while making me scream when that Raptor jumped on the table in the kitchen.
1994 – Party of Five debuted September 12th and I fell in love w/ Matthew Fox
1995 – Nov. 2nd, “The Soup Nazi” episode from Seinfeld has had me saying “No soup for you” for the past 17 years. Sad I know.
1996 – Year I grad. Graduation song was “Tonight, Tonight” by The Smashing Pumpkins - fav band EVER
1997 – White Zombies disbands while Black Sabbath reforms. The ying and yang of colors. Hmmm
1998 – My son was born this year – anyways – Charmed debuted October 7th
1999 – 10 Things I hate About You starring Heath Ledger drew me to the theaters that final Nineties year.

If you want to do the Nineties Blogfest, go to Dave Wrote This page and sign up there. The linky above is NOT for the Nineties Blogfest. ONLY for the Express Yourself Meme. Thank you!

Have a great Monday!

Express Yourself - Movies/Books

Welcome back to Express Yourself week of Oct 8-12! We had an awesome turn out for our kickoff week last week! Jackie and I would like to thank you for making it so wonderful!

Now on with this weeks...

* List 5 movies/books that causes the hair to stand on the back of your neck. *
Don’t judge!
This is why you need chains
1. The Forth Kind – Why is this particular film at the top of my list? ALIENS! Like real freaky deaky aliens. Scenes are spliced with fake and “real” images of hovering bodies and crap. I DO NOT get scared easily - the “Protector of the house” and I slept with the lights. THE LIGHTS ON people! If you see white owls in your dreams – you better be chaining yourselves to your beds, they are coming for you!
Oh h*ll NO! Look behind you!

2. Wrong Turn – A bunch of wannabe campers go to the remote backwoods in God knows where when their Range Rover is damaged by barbed wire. Dumba**es! You’re in the middle of know where and there isn’t a fence within miles of you, don’t just write it off… ugh! Some medical student crashes into the Rover and now 6 people are stranded. 0_0 While trying to get help, one by one they are picked off by mutated cannibals because, you know, that makes sense. But I have to admit – this movie scares the bejezus out of me. The BEJEZUS I say!
You thought I was making it up

3. The Hills Have Eyes (Remake) – Another case of the mutated cannibals x_X. This one isn’t as scary as it is gross. It has to be vision violation or something. Buckets and buckets of guts and fake blood, and sausage ropes doused in blood as fake intestines. *covering mouth* I need a barf bag – excuse me…
He's ready for his close up!

4. Jeepers Creepers – This guy – this Creeper guy, with the creepy molester truck… FO-REAKS-ME-OUT!!! His creepy as h-e-double-hockey-sticks yellow eyes and his white Chiclets teeth. *shivers* Does this dude talk. Oh and then, in the second movie, when he loses his limbs and he’s hurling his motha-lovin-self through the air so he can still kill one of those kids - oh I might fall over dead thinking about it. I gotta move on.
Tell me those mask fo-freak you out!

5. Fortress – In 1986 (I was 8) I watched this Australian movie about a teacher and her nine students. They were set upon by four men in masks; Saint Nick, a Duck, a Wolf (or was it a Cat), and Mouse. Kept in an underground bus, in some freaky a$$ dark woods, and cave; forced to find their way out before finding out what to come of them. I was 8 when I first saw this film and being 8, this movie gave me nightmares for weeks. Even to this day I hate masks. I love Halloween and dressing up but I hate plastic masks like that. Creeps me out. This movie is a MUST WATCH!

HUGE Props to IWSG

Just want to give BIG UP PROPS to IWSG! You guys and your supportive words were what I needed to get my head back in the game. I wrote 1000 words last night. Thanks!

I never would have thought admitting my faults to the blogosphere would release me and bring back such supportive writing pros, but it did. And I did it all without a glass of hard liquor or meds. Don't look at me like that - I do not need AA or Dr. Drew.

Have a great Thursday, Friday, and the weekend. I will be off celebrating my 3 yr olds birthday!

IWSG - So is This Like AA

Not that I have ever been to an AA meeting. I've never even been to a Confessional.

You're all thinking "Uh-huh"

No seriously!

So I'm suppose to pour out my insecurities about writing and then you guys are supposed to support them - er - help me through them? Is that how this works?

Well that's what Jackie said anyways.

So let me give it a shot...

Hmmm... my insecurities... I think a good place to start (since this is my first meeting) is with a list. Something small and simple. Plus I REALLY have a thing for lists. And I know most of this applies to most writers.

1. I think my writing sucks. Period. Very elementary.
2. I think everyone will hate my writing.
3. None of my ideas are original.
4. Someone always seems to be "stealing" my ideas. lol - there are 8 billion people in this world. I know I'm not the only one with my random thoughts. They are just quicker with their draw.
5. I suck cause I'm so slow. I have been working on the same WIP for almost 2 years!
6. I've been working on said WIP because I've started 5 other WIP's. <-- Dumb!
7. I think I'm a bad author because I like to read more than write.
8. I think I'm a bad author because I like my family more than writing.
9. Why do other writers get books done when they have families and I can't. Do I not have the drive to be a author.
Why didn't I end those last two sentences with question marks? This could be a problem.
10. I should just quit because all of the reasons I've listed above.

I'm going to go read said sucky WIP with the none original ideas that someone else already has while I also read another book by an author that found the time to finish theirs while they had a family.

Hey it's a Wednesday in my favorite month and I just joined a new support group! It can't be that bad - right!?

Express Yourself Meme Upgrade

Hello again!

Jackie and I posted yesterday about our NEW Express Youself Meme... We have made a few changes to it... including a Linky Thingy for those of you that had been asking about one. We discussed it and thought it was a great idea! There will be a NEW Linky every week so don't forget signup!
Again, for those of you that missed it, here are the deets...

"Express Yourself" is a weekly meme which started yesterday, Monday Oct 1st! It's goal is to help our fellow bloggers get to know us and one another better; to help motivate, laugh (or cry) together, in other words – stalk.

What makes you tick? What inspires you to write? How is the outside world influencing you? Whether it be a quote, a list of favorite things/people, a question, a song, and so on. Each Monday we will find something different to post about. It will correlate with writing, blogging, and life in general. Then, we hope, you’ll follow suit and post what it is that motivates you.
At the beginning of every month Jackie and I will post a Gadget with a list of that month’s weekly posts so you will be informed in advanced. Jackie and I will be posting on Monday's (usually). We know most of you are busy when Monday rolls around or maybe you don’t post on Mondays at all. Don’t fret, we understand. That’s why you have the rest of the week to post.

Oh good. You noticed two banners. We loved both and couldn’t decide. Pick one, use both, it’s up to you.
For the Month of October the topics are…
Oct. 1 - 5 – Pick a name in your current wip; what was your process of acquiring it?
Oct. 8 - 12 – List 5 movies/books that causes the hair to stand up on your neck.
Oct. 15 - 19 – What language would you like to speak and why?
Oct. 22 - 25 – List 5 favorite monsters throughout history.
No meme Friday Oct. 26 thru Friday Nov. 2 due to Spooktoberfest and a little fall break.

Nov. 1st we will be posting the Nov. Express Yourself Meme questions.

For easy access to the rules and Q’s for ea. month; there will be a Page Tab – Express Yourself

Express Yourself Meme

Hey Blogging Friends!

Jackie and I are at it again. No, not another Blogfest or hop.

Jackie has been wanting to do a MEME (apparently pronounced MEEM not ME-ME – see here) and she kindly asked if I wanted to co-host. HELLO! OF COURSE!!!

"Express Yourself" is a weekly meme starting today, Monday Oct 1st! It's goal is to help our fellow bloggers get to know us and one another better; to help motivate, laugh (or cry) together, in other words – stalk.

Nov. 1st we will be posting the Nov. Express Yourself Meme questions.

For easy access to the rules and Q’s for ea. month; there will be a Page Tab – Express Yourself

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now for my Express Yourself entry.
Pick a name in your current wip; what was your process of acquiring it?
Tarrick Morrissen from my current wip, Occupiers. (Which has been my "current" wip for the past year)
I wanted a strong name with a Swedish origin. I had to do some research on old Scandinavian names and spellings. After I found the right sound with the perfect spelling, I fell in love. Now giving away the century would be giving you too much information. Maybe another time!
Here’s a pic of my beloved Tarrick. I have posted an old photo of Alexander Skarsgard as Tarrick in older posts but I found my perfect Tarrick over the weekend ...
Tarrick Morrissen
 Now it's your turn. Post in the comments and let us know if you are participating so we can hop over!
