Express Yourself - Childhood Reads

EYM is to bring our community of blogging friends closer together weekly. Jackie and I want to get to know you better and this week is no different.

I'm super excited about this question: What books did you enjoy as a child?

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen - 1987 Newbery Honor-winning young-adult wilderness survival novel about a thirteen year-old boy, Brian Robeson.

Lord of the Flies by William Golding - 1954 novel about a group of British boys stuck on an uninhabited island.

Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery - It recounts how Anne Shirley, a young orphan girl sent to a middle-aged brother and sister who have a farm, and who had intended to adopt a boy to help them, makes her way with the Cuthberts.

Babysitters Club by Ann M. Martin (first 35 novels) and the others were ghostwritten - The series is about a group of middle school students living in Stoneybrook, Conn and run a business called the Babysitters Club that helps parents find babysitters from the club. Lots of girl drama.

Tell us what books you loved in your younger years - you know - no older than 18.

  4. It was almost impossible to find The Babysitters Club in Jamaica. I only got one book second hand. Nice choices Dani.

  6. I was (and still am) a big fan of Anne McCaffrey's Pern books. I came across Dragonsinger sitting on the library shelf and it just exploded from there. I have re-read these books many many times as a child and even as an adult.

  7. I adored Lord of the Flies. Incredibly deep book. Read it as part of my school's English Syllabus, but still think back on it often.

Also, I used to love reading Sweet Valley High books.
