Express Yourself - Writer Woes & Yays

Express Yourself is a weekly Meme hosted by my friend Jackie and myself. We do this every week to learn more about our fellow bloggers and so far we have met some very talented and wonderful people!

July 22-26 questions is: What is the most frustrating/satisfying thing about being a writer? Not a writer, then pertain this question to whatever you'd like.

I think the most frustrating part is the first draft. Getting all of my thoughts out coherently is a difficult thing for me. I've got so much going on in my head (not all of it good, I might add) which makes me crazy! The most satisfying is getting that first draft done. Now making changes and corrections which I find relaxing and enjoyable!

Today, over at Cover Girls, I am posting a 30 Day Book Challenge. However instead of posting 30 straight days, Jackie and I decided to post ALL 30 question in one survey. You wanna know some answers to some hard and challenging book and author questions? Maybe you're interested in my most hated book, or loved book, or favorite character. What book to movie(s) suck? Stop by and visit me at Cover Girls. Jackie is posting her answers on Wednesday, which I am looking forward too since we didn't share them with each other!!

Have a great Monday!

  1. No matter how frustrating writing gets, finishing the book gives a lot of satisfaction.

  2. I've never been a fan of writing first drafts, either. They were easily the most dreaded part of the process for me!

  3. The most frustrating thing to me is not knowing what's wrong with you MS. So you've written, had it betaed a million times, revised a million times and then query. And they say, love the premise, just didn't fall in love with the voice.

Like what the hell does that mean? It can mean different things to different people. Voice is so tough to define. I want to pull my hair out. (I don't though cause I have really thin hair as it is and would totally look like crap if I pulled any out.) :)

  4. It's nice to hear that someone else struggles with that first draft!

  5. I forgot about the most satisfying part, but I think I mentioned it anyway. Getting to say "The end" definitely is satisfying!

  6. Yes, the first draft is a real killer! But, it is satisfying when you finally finish and your work is ready for publishing. Although honestly, there really is no end, one could spend forever editing and re-editing. It is knowing when to stop, which is a learning curb.
