Celebrate the Small Things - Over Winter

Every week some of us like to share the small things that we have accomplished. Thanks Viklit for giving us an outlet!

1. Well, we survived another snow storm. And the kids have missed another 3-days-a-row from school. I'm. Really. Getting. Sick. Of. Winter!

2. I'm slowing making my way through A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness... It finally started to "get good" around chapter 20ish. But I have to say, this book is so boring in parts and very predictable. A historian writing a book makes for a boring read for me. It received some great reviews but it's not my cup of tea. However, it does hold enough of my attention that I might read Shadow of Night. Another book it's "boringness" remind me of is The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I never did finish that one but I will eventually. So much fluff and filler.

3. I work this weekend with Jackie at the flower shop!!

  1. I'm over winter too. We haven't had a ton of snow, but it's the cold. I just want it to be warmer than zero degrees for more than a few days. We've had a few 10 degree days, but that's not enough.

    32 degrees... heaven. :)

  2. I'm with you on Winter. It's been no fun at all this year. Tons of snow for us and very cold weather. But every day we're closer to Spring. Happy weekend.

  3. I know. I feel bad for the kiddos. They'll be going to school half way through June if this keeps up!
And yay for working at the flower shop with me!

  4. I'm more annoyed we've had such an unusually cold winter here with almost no snow! Either snow or warm up--that's how I feel. ;)

    Have a great weekend!

  5. It can be painful trying to trudge through a book that really isn't interesting in the slightest. I don't feel bad about giving up on them anymore.
I hope the winter passes for you all soon.

Have a great weekend in the flower shop!

  6. Kudos to you for sticking with the book! I tend to just give it up if it doesn't keep my interest in the first few chapters. Hope you have a good weekend!

  7. Winter is sounding like a real pain and the kids are going to have to make up for the work they missed. But at least you survived. I get what you're saying about too much filler Dani. I got a paperback book for review but was unable to finish it because it was so boring as a result of the writer making long unnecessary descriptions then going quick on the good stuff. I felt so bad about not finishing but...it was boring.

Enjoy your weekend and time with Jackie.

  9. Glad you survived the snow storm. You know I wondered whether to read that book as I read good reviews but wasn't sure it was for me - think i'll skip it!

  10. "another snow storm" really lets us know what kind of winter you are having.

  11. I can't believe how much snow some areas are getting.
You're more determined that I am - I would've given up on that book many chapters ago.

  12. Congrats on snow survival! I'd been wondering about the Harkness books, but I have a very short attention span, so she doesn't seem the right author for me. Have a great time at the flower shop!
