E.T.
Circa 1982 – I was 4 or 5. I know. I was young but I remember it as if it was yesterday. My parents thought it was wise to take me and my younger cousin to the theaters and subject us to our First Alien. We were the same age so when I cried, he cried. When he laughed, I laughed. And so on.
Lord of the Flies
I HATED reading in my youth and thought it was the adults way of torture. But once I placed my attention in the pages of this classic, I was hooked. Kids stranded on an island, killing animals and each other to stay alive. This is one I’m torturing making my kids read.
Beatles
My parents raised me on their taste in music and at a young age I fell in love with this band. Mopped tops, poetic voices, and swagger. If John was still walking this Earth, I’d be two stepd behind. Seriously!
My kids
What can I say? I always thought I found love in High School but never really found it until I held my first baby in my arms. Weighing in at 7lbs 8oz, he was the most beautiful person I had ever seen. My heart never really knew love until that day and every time since.

Your firsts scared the heck out of me when I was younger. Lol ET and lord of the flies both gave me nightmares.

Your post has inspired me to go revisit E.T. and experience Lord of the Flies for the first time. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about that book, mostly from my sister who read it in her teens. I'm a Beatles fan too, and you've got some nice looking kids there. :)

I was in my 20's when the Beatles first became famous, and I didn't particularly like them at the time! Since then, of course, they've become 'classic', and listening to them now reminds me of my 20's!

Great picks. I think ET may have been the first movie I saw in a theater. It's the first I remember at least. I'm getting some good ideas of old movies my kids might watch now. And they'll probably think it's cool that I saw it when I was a kid.

My kids wouldn't watch it at first. They would all hide their eyes and take off running. LOL. I practically had to sit on them to get them to watch it. Once they did, it was smooth sailing.

Ohmygosh, I was SOOO scared of the movie ET when I was little! I don't know. People look at me like I'm funny when I say that, but aliens have always freaked me out!

You mean to ask... Do you find that Hunger Games resembles Lord of the Flies? Since it came first and all. lol. I'm not really that picky. But yes it does have some similarities. The survival of kids and killing.

Did you ever see the film Backbeat, about the Beatles in Hamburg? The guy who played Lennon was eerily accurate... plus it's a great film that makes me sob.

ReplyDeleteI remember seeing E.T. in the theater. It was so packed I think my father stood in the aisle. It was the only time I ever saw him cry. Love the Beatles. I also grew up listening to my parents music so I would play the Hard Days Night vinyl album over and over. Also love Ringo Starr's You're Sixteen, You're Beautiful and You're Mine. (My mother has that at her ringtone for me). I have never read Lord Of the Flies, but now I think I have to. Sounds intriguing and speaking of, I'm going to enter your giveaway- sounds like my kind of Cinderella!

I am cool with the first 3 lol. Believe it or not, I didn't see E.T. until some 10 years after it came out. I thought it was a kiddie movie so I had no interest. Finally, I was pushed into watching it and wondered how I could have avoided it. Great flick!
ReplyDeleteLikewise, I detested "Lord of the Flies' when I was younger. Ironically, as an English teacher I teach it at times.
You're the 3rd person to mention The Beatles, proving to me that they are in there as one of the top 10 bands in history. My fave album was "The White Album". It's cool to this day.
