Top 3 Zen Meditation Techniques

Observation of the breath

Meditators should assume a comfortable posture such as the Burmese, half-lotus or Seiza pose during zazen. It’s best to sit on a padded mat or cushion; sitting on a chair is also acceptable. Awareness is directed towards a certain object of meditation, generally observation of the breath and more specifically the way it moves in and out of the belly area. This method fosters an abiding sense of presence and alertness.

Quiet awareness

This form of meditation does not repose on a focal point such as the breath. Here, meditators learn to allow thoughts to flow through their minds without judgment, grasping or rejection. The Japanese call this practice shikantaza, or “just sitting.” This Zen Buddhist meditation technique is practiced with no object of meditation, anchors or contents.
The teachings emphasize that there is no goal, per se. The meditator “just sits” and allows their mind to just be. It is important for practitioners to understand that zazen is not a means to an end: it is the end.

Intensive group meditation

Serious meditators regularly practice rigorous group meditation in meditation centers or temples. The Japanese call this practice sesshin. During this period of intensive meditation, practitioners devote most of their time to sitting meditation. Each session lasts about 30 to 50 minutes, alternated with walking meditation, short breaks and meals. Meals are taken in silence as part of the practice, usually with oryoki bowls. Brief periods of work are also performed mindfully. Today, such Zen meditation retreats are practiced in Taiwan, Japan and the West.
On his sixteenth birthday, Will is just shy of five feet, and he is bitterly resigned to being tiny forever. His only comforts are his best friend and stepbrother, Drew (6'3"), and their pal Monica (5'10"), the girl Will's been quietly pining for since fifth grade. Everyone else literally overlooks him. But with them, he feels whole. That is, until things take an unexpected turn, and he realizes he's really and truly on his own.

That's when he starts to grow. And grow fast. Astonishingly fast. For the first time, Will's happy with his stature, and the world's at his feet (for a change). People see him differently; more important, he sees himself differently. But the highest heights come with some low, low lows, and his most precious relationships suffer excruciating growing pains. Will has to figure out what to do with himself--and all of this new "himself" he never expected to have.
It is a gradual process of ever-increasing awareness into the inner workings of reality itself. It takes years, but one day the meditator chisels through that wall and tumbles into the presence of light. The transformation is complete. It’s called Liberation, and it’s permanent. Liberation is the goal of all Buddhist systems of practice. But the routes to the attainment of that end are quite diverse.

Upanshu is a practice that involves quietly repeating a mantra or a deity's name. It is one of three types of japa, a Sanskrit word that means “muttering.” Upanshu is also a Sanskrit word and means “in a low voice” or “in a whisper.” In upanshu japa, the mantra is murmured so softly that only the yogi him/herself can hear it or distinguish what is being repeated.

Upanshu, in particular, and japa, in general, are practiced to focus the mind spiritually and lead to a deeper state of consciousness. Such practice is an essential aspect of many yoga practices. Japa yoga is a practice that specifically combines yoga with japa as a means to remove mental impurities.

The other two types of japa are:

Baikhari, or vachika, which is chanting of a mantra aloud. This type of japa is the most common and is suitable for beginners as well as experienced yogis.

Manasik, which is the silent chanting of a mantra only in the mind. It is also known as mental japa and is the most advanced form of japa.

Upanshu is an intermediary stage between the more basic baikhari/vachika and manasik japa. The yogi should practice upanshu only after mastering baikhari/vachika japa. The audible japa calms the mind, while upanshu further stills the mind to allow the level of concentration necessary to reach deeper levels. Upanshu is also appropriate when chanting aloud is not, as when other people are around or in an otherwise public area.
A sinister scientist. A secret history. If you think you know the truth behind Eleven’s mother, prepare to have your mind turned Upside Down in this thrilling prequel to the hit show Stranger Things.

It’s the summer of 1969, and the shock of conflict reverberates through the youth of America, both at home and abroad. As a student at a quiet college campus in the heartland of Indiana, Terry Ives couldn’t be further from the front lines of Vietnam or the incendiary protests in Washington.

But the world is changing, and Terry isn’t content to watch from the sidelines. When word gets around about an important government experiment in the small town of Hawkins, she signs on as a test subject for the project, codenamed MKUltra. Unmarked vans, a remote lab deep in the woods, mind-altering substances administered by tightlipped researchers . . . and a mystery the young and restless Terry is determined to uncover.

But behind the walls of Hawkins National Laboratory—and the piercing gaze of its director, Dr. Martin Brenner—lurks a conspiracy greater than she could have ever imagined. To face it, she’ll need the help of her fellow test subjects, including one so mysterious the world doesn’t know she exists—a young girl with unexplainable, superhuman powers and a number instead of a name: 008.

Amid the rising tensions of the new decade, Terry Ives and Martin Brenner have begun a different kind of war—one where the human mind is the battlefield.

potent meditation for the glandular system. It is a “medical meditation.” Its
effects are strong enough to help the system fight disease. It does not replace
allopathic forms of medicine, but it does open the healing and preventative
capacity of your body. The meditation focuses its effects on the glandular
system, the guardians of your health. Be careful to start slowly with this pranayam.
It can make you very spacey and dreamy. It is best to practice this before
going to bed. If you master it, you will know why the yogis and sages always
call breath the energy of life.

Now that Asa sits on the throne, he will stop at nothing to make sure Malachi never sets foot in the palace again. Their only hope is to find Nomi's sister, Serina, on the prison island of Mount Ruin. But when Nomi and Malachi arrive, it is not the island of conquered, broken women that they expected. It is an island in the grip of revolution, and Serina--polite, submissive Serina--is its leader.

Betrayal, grief, and violence have changed both sisters, and the women of Mount Ruin have their sights set on revenge beyond the confines of their island prison. They plan to sweep across the entire kingdom, issuing in a new age of freedom for all. But first they'll have to get rid of Asa, and only Nomi knows how.

Separated once again, this time by choice, Nomi and Serina must forge their own paths as they aim to tear down the world they know, and build something better in its place.

The stakes are higher and the battles bolder in Tracy Banghart's unputdownable sequel to Grace and Fury.

Always have your knives.

Growing up on a tiny island off the coast of a post-apocalyptic Ireland, Orpen's life has revolved around physical training and necessity. After Mam died, it's the only way she and her guardian Maeve have survived the ravenous skrake (zombies) who roam the wilds of the ravaged countryside, looking for prey.

When Maeve is bitten and infected, Orpen knows what she should do - sink a knife into her eye socket, and quickly. Instead, she tries to save Maeve, and following rumours of a distant city on the mainland, guarded by fierce banshees, she sets off, pushing Maeve in a wheelbarrow and accompanied by their little dog, Danger. It is a journey on which Orpen will need to fight repeatedly for her life, drawing on all of her training and instincts. While it is recognized by many different names (Holy Spirit, Shakti, etc…) based on the contextual belief system or religion, there is a commonality in this realization of a cosmic energy.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The term is derived from the Sanskrit kundal meaning “coiled one.” Dharma teaching dictates that this internal energy is coiled (like a serpent) near the base of the spine.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The aim of Kundalini is to awaken that slumbering energy. Those who decide to pursue Kundalini as a practice to release this coiled energy are said to be rewarded with spiritual enlightenment and higher conscious awareness.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Kundalini energy rests like a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. When this dormant energy is freed it flows upward through the seven chakras – which are the energy centers of our body – and leads to an expanded state of consciousness, known as a kundalini awakening.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The diagram below shows how this energy flows through the chakras.
Jagadguru

Jagadguru is a term used for a guru whose influence on the world has the power to transform it. The term – literally meaning “guru of the world” – comes from the Sanskrit, jagat, meaning “world,” “Earth,” “the cosmos” or “mankind”; and guru, which means “teacher” and usually refers to a spiritual master.
The title of jagadguru is typically used in traditional orthodox Hinduism, particularly for acaryas (spiritual teachers) in the Vedanta school of thought who have written commentaries on the scriptures.
Daily Mental Maintenance

The mind is like a machine. But it is completely up to us to maintain that machine properly. Only then will we get the maximum potential from it. We should also know how to turn the machine off. This, sadly, has become a lost art, and the very reason we see so many people around us “blowing fuses.” IAM (Meditation) Technique is a daily mental maintenance system. Through focusing on objects, sounds and sensations during meditation, our power of concentration increases. Observing our mental and vital functions, we gain awareness. Relaxing the mind removes stress. Expanding our concept of self similarly expands our thinking in general, making us more creative.

Once they were twelve, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls' lives have been cut short. Each death was more tragic than the last—the plague, a plummeting fall, a drowning, a slippery plunge—and there are whispers throughout the surrounding villages that the family is cursed by the gods.

Disturbed by a series of ghostly visions, Annaleigh becomes increasingly suspicious that the deaths were no accidents. Her sisters have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn't sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts. Because who—or what—are they really dancing with?

When Annaleigh's involvement with a mysterious stranger who has secrets of his own intensifies, it's a race to unravel the darkness that has fallen over her family—before it claims her next.

John Harrison—a subversive tale that immerses us in a world where the extremes of bleakness and beauty exist together in dangerous harmony in a city on the edge of civility and chaos.

The Great War is over. The city of Lower Proszawa celebrates the peace with a decadence and carefree spirit as intense as the war’s horrifying despair. But this newfound hedonism—drugs and sex and endless parties—distracts from strange realities of everyday life: Intelligent automata taking jobs. Genetically engineered creatures that serve as pets and beasts of war. A theater where gruesome murders happen twice a day. And a new plague that even the ceaseless euphoria can’t mask.

Unlike others who live strictly for fun, Largo is an addict with ambitions. A bike messenger who grew up in the slums, he knows the city’s streets and its secrets intimately. His life seems set. He has a beautiful girlfriend, drugs, a chance at a promotion—and maybe, an opportunity for complete transformation: a contact among the elite who will set him on the course to lift himself up out of the streets.

But dreams can be a dangerous thing in a city whose mood is turning dark and inward. Others have a vision of life very different from Largo’s, and they will use any methods to secure control. And in behind it all, beyond the frivolity and chaos, the threat of new war always looms.

None of her previous pregnancies have borne fruit, and her husband, Richard, is anxious for an heir. Then Fleetwood discovers a hidden doctor’s letter that carries a dire prediction: she will not survive another birth. By chance she meets a midwife named Alice Grey, who promises to help her deliver a healthy baby. But Alice soon stands accused of witchcraft.

Is there more to Alice than meets the eye? Fleetwood must risk everything to prove her innocence. As the two women’s lives become intertwined, the Witch Trials of 1612 loom. Time is running out; both their lives are at stake. Only they know the truth. Only they can save each other.

Rich and compelling, set against the frenzy of the real Pendle Hill Witch Trials, this novel explores the rights of 17th-century women and raises the question: Was witch-hunting really women-hunting? Fleetwood Shuttleworth, Alice Grey and the other characters are actual historical figures. King James I was obsessed with asserting power over the lawless countryside (even woodland creatures, or “familiars,” were suspected of dark magic) by capturing “witches”—in reality mostly poor and illiterate women.

Believing he is lost forever, Echo is shocked to find him half-frozen in the winter forest six months later, guarded by a strange talking wolf—the same creature who attacked her as a child. The wolf presents Echo with an ultimatum: If she lives with him for one year, he will ensure her father makes it home safely. But there is more to the wolf than Echo realizes.

In his enchanted house beneath a mountain, each room must be sewn together to keep the home from unraveling, and something new and dark and strange lies behind every door. When centuries-old secrets unfold, Echo discovers a magical library full of books-turned-mirrors, and a young man named Hal who is trapped inside of them. As the year ticks by, the rooms begin to disappear, and Echo must solve the mystery of the wolf’s enchantment before her time is up, otherwise Echo, the wolf, and Hal will be lost forever.

Myra Bloodgood was confusing mix of protective and abusive, a manipulative personality who never told the truth—about where she came from, who Ivy’s father was, or why they were living their lives on the run.

Now that Ivy has been sent to Darkhaven, an island off the New England coast, to live with a rich uncle she didn’t know existed, she is forced to reckon with her mother’s past. Ivy can tell right away there are long-held family secrets buried within these walls, but when she wakes up from one of her nightmares covered in someone else’s blood, Ivy fears that whatever demons her mother battled while she was alive have come to roost in her own mind. Scared that she can no longer trust what she sees, Ivy seeks the help of a boy who thinks her episodes are connected to the sordid history of Darkhaven—but what they don’t know might kill them both.

A moody and twisty gothic mystery with an impossible romance, Dreaming Darkly is an atmospheric, fast-paced page-turner written by comics veteran Caitlin Kittredge.

<span style="color: #777777; font-family: "ubuntu" , serif; font-size: 10.5pt;">Chakras are the
concentrated energy centers of the body. Chakra is a Sanskrit term and it means
“wheel” or “disk” and is derived from the root word “cakra”. Chakras are
spinning wheels of energy/light. Chakras have the loving responsibility of
taking in, incorporating and emanating energy to keep us functioning at optimal
levels.

<span style="font-family: "ubuntu" , serif; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma;">We have major
and minor chakras in our energetic body systems. When a chakra is not
functioning properly or if it is blocked, illness is more prone to occur. Our
wellbeing on all levels can affect and is affected by the chakras. If we are
feeling depressed, then we may not be taking in the maximum amount of energy
for our needs. If we do not nourish our bodies with the proper food and
nutrients, then we may take in less energy than more. If we “block” feelings
such as anger, etc., or do not speak our truth, we may be unconsciously
impeding our healthy energy flow.
Schwab.

Seventeen-year-old Aderyn ("Ryn") only cares about two things: her family, and her family's graveyard. And right now, both are in dire straits. Since the death of their parents, Ryn and her siblings have been scraping together a meager existence as gravediggers in the remote village of Colbren, which sits at the foot of a harsh and deadly mountain range that was once home to the fae. The problem with being a gravedigger in Colbren, though, is that the dead don't always stay dead.

The risen corpses are known as "bone houses," and legend says that they're the result of a decades-old curse. When Ellis, an apprentice mapmaker with a mysterious past, arrives in town, the bone houses attack with new ferocity. What is it about Ellis that draws them near? And more importantly, how can they be stopped for good?

Together, Ellis and Ryn embark on a journey that will take them deep into the heart of the mountains, where they will have to face both the curse and the long-hidden truths about themselves. Equal parts classic horror novel and original fairy-tale, The Bone Houses will have you spellbound from the very first page.
calming the mind and tuning down the number of random thoughts that pass

anxiety, slow down the rate of brain aging and memory loss, promote emotional
